Barberry Shrub, a garden escapee, grows in woodland areas
I didn’t know it was an invasive species. Thank you.
Yes, Barberry is considered invasive in NY, although it may not be in other states. It has small berries that seed all over the place. On the flip side, pollinators love the plentiful, small flowers in the spring – bumblebees are all over it.
Aha! Every living thing has a good side to it, right?
Absolutely! Even the dreaded Oriental Bittersweet is a good winter food source for birds, they’re adaptable 🙂
